We are delighted to announce that this year’s conference will be held in what is currently THE hottest tourism and cultural destination in Australia. Hobart is second only to Sydney as the oldest European settlement in Australia and steeped in ancient and colonial history.
What might a Hobart conference look like?
To be held at Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart, the theme of this years Conference is “Intersections:where new technologies inform traditional practices and boundaries are blurred between gambling,gaming, risk-taking and behavioral addictions”
NAGS is excited to announce that Dr Brett Abarbanel, Director of Research at the University of Nevada’s International Gaming Institute, will be the international keynote speaker at this year’s Conference.
Dr Abarbanel has expertise in the areas of esports, gambling policy, casino operations, responsible gambling and community relations, heuristics and decision making, online gambling user experience, and new gambling media and technology. These areas of expertise will be particularly germane to the theme of the conference—the intersection between traditional practices and new technology.
The co-executive editor of the Gaming Research & Review Journal, Dr Abarbanel is also an editorial board member at International Gambling Studies and Harvard’s Division on Addiction’s Brief Addiction Science Information Source. She recently completed a term on the International Advisory Panel for Singapore’s National Council on Problem Gambling, and is a founding director of the Nevada Esports Alliance, which promotes development of best practices at the intersection of the esports and regulated gambling industries.
Each year, the NAGS Conference attracts national and international speakers from many different areas related to the gambling field, including policy makers, industry representatives, researchers, clinicians, counsellors and a wide range of people working with communities. The aim of the NAGS conference is to explain and explore research and developments in regulatory practices, government policies, treatment and service delivery, community development and industry practices.
